Game One

Senior Taylor Carbone hit a grand slam and sophomore Meg Colleran pitched a shutout as the Minutewomen cruised to an 8-0 win over George Mason (14-13, 3-2 A-10) in five innings.

Carbone’s blast came with the Minutewomen already leading the Patriots 4-0. Head coach Kristi Stefanoni’s squad scored seven runs in the fourth inning, after freshman Kaycee Carbone walked to begin the inning. Following an error, junior Tara Klee singled into left field to score K. Carbone. Freshman Kaitlyn Stavinoha singled to bring in another run. With the bases loaded, redshirt sophomore Jena Cozza was hit by a pitch to drive in freshman Erin Stacevicz.

UMass scored their first run in the second inning. After freshman K. Carbone walked to start the inning, junior Ashton Wince doubled to deep center field and scored Carbone on the play.

Colleran allowed just one hit in the game, a single in the fourth inning by sophomore Liz Seymour. She struck out four batters in the game, including two in the first inning.

Six different UMass batters all recorded a hit in the game. Cozza, T. Carbone and Klee all added multi-hit games for the Minutewomen.

Game Two

Carbone’s blast came to lead off the fourth inning and gave the Minutewomen a 1-0 lead over the Patriots. UMass scored again in the inning thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Wince to score K. Carbone from third. UMass added two more runs in the fifth inning.

Stavinoha led the inning off with a single up the middle and moved to second base following a bunt single by Stacevicz.
