Saint Joseph’s Tops Minutewomen in Series Finale

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts softball fell in the series finale to Saint Joseph’s on Sunday, 3-0, at Sortino Field, in Amherst.
UMass (10-20, 4-4 A-10) sent sophomore Meg Colleran into the circle for the rubber game against the Hawks (14-15-1, 5-4-1 A-10). Colleran allowed just five hits and two earned runs, while striking out five.
Amanda Kulp led the Hawks offensively. Kulp went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs for Saint Joseph’s. Saint Joseph’s scored in the first inning after Kulp reached on a dropped third strike. After stealing second base, she would score when Sarah Yoos singled later in the inning.
The Hawks scored twice more in the third inning. Kaylyn Zierke brought in a run when she walked with the bases loaded, which was followed by a Brandi Harkness sacrifice fly to center field for the third SJU run of the game.
