May 21, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse redshirt-senior Ryan Izzo was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Third Team on Thursday, as announced by the organization. Izzo, a short-stick defensive midfielder, earned all-America for the second consecutive season in the process after he took home honorable mention from the USILA in 2014.
A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Izzo provided the Minutemen with 32 groundballs, 11 caused turnovers and four goals over 15 games played. He was an integral part of the faceoff midfield as well as the clear and ride units and man-down defense and finished his collegiate career as the active leader on the UMass roster in groundballs (115) and caused turnovers (33).
Izzo was one of three CAA men's lacrosse student-athletes recognized by the USILA joined by Towson's goalkeeper Tyler White (third team) and close defenseman JoJo Ostrander (honorable mention). Izzo was one of only five short-stick defensive midfielders from around NCAA Division I recognized, including Will Haus (Duke; first team), Jack Near (Notre Dame; second team), Tate Jozokos (North Carolina; third team) and Chris Cook (Cornell; honorable mention).
The honor represents the 136th all-America award issued to a Minuteman by the USILA in the history of the program and 45th during head coach Greg Cannella's 21 seasons leading the squad.
