·UMass (15-24) makes its final road trip of the season, traveling to Storrs, Conn. to face Connecticut on Thursday at 4 p.m.
·The Minutewomen are hitting .269on the year with 43doubles, 4 triples and 37 home runs. The team also has 146 RBIs and 155 runs. The 37 HRlead the Atlantic 10 and rank 43rdnationally.
·Senior SSQuianna Diaz-Pattersonis batting an impressive .509 on the year, thirdin the nation, with a .893 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage. Diaz-Patterson has 10doubles, threetriples, nine homeruns and 24 RBI. She has reached base in 13-consecutive games.
·Senior 1BBridget Lemirecomes into thegamewith a hot bat, batting .519with3homers and12RBI in the last eight games.She is hitting .302 on the year with an A-10 best 11 HR and a team-high 34 RBI. She hit her second grand slam of the season in the 8-7 game one win over Boston College on Tuesday. She enters the UConn game having reached base in 12-straight contests.
·SophomoreCAshton Wince is second on the team with a .333 avg and three doubles. Her 26 singles are season on the team and she has thrown out six would-be base stealers this season. She had a pair of 2-hit games in the doubleheader against BCon Tuesday.
ScoutingConnecticut
·UConn(17-31)is coming off a 5-4 loss to Quinnipiac on Wednesday evening. The Huskies trailed 2-0 and 4-2 in the game and scored a run in the seventhbefore leaving a runner stranded at second. Both teams left six on base in the game.
·UConn is 3-5 at home this season with the victories over South Florida and Memphis twice. The Huskies have lost their last three overall and eight of ten.
·Senior Emily O'Donnell has been the dominant force at the plate for UConn, hitting .348 with 14 doubles, 2 triples, 6 HR and 32 RBI. The third baseman returned to the lineup against Quinnipiac after missing the previous five games.
· Jen McIntyre is in her first year as the head coach following a year as the associate head coach to former UMass assistant Kethryn Gleason at BU and 12 years at Penn State, her alma mater. She replaced Karen Mullins who retired after last season with 832 victories in 31 seasons.
Series History vs.UConn
·The teams are meeting for the 91sttime on Thursday with the Huskies holding a 46-43-1 series edge. The series is the second-most played in program history behind the 99 contests with Rhode Island.
·The Minutewomen have produced three no-hitters against the Huskies with the most recent coming in 2008 on the arm ofBrandice Balschmiter.
·The Huskieswon the last meeting, 4-2, last season in Storrs. UMasshad a number of missed opportunities, leaving the bases loaded in the first and fourth innings,and stranding 12 runners overall while being outhit 7-6.
Preseason Poll
·Massachusetts was picked to finish fourth in a vote of the league's 10 head coaches during the preseason polling period. Fordham earned all 10 first place votes and was a unanimous top pick, followed by Saint Louis and Saint Joseph's, ahead of the Minutewomen. Dayton, George Washington, George Mason, La Salle and St. Bonaventure rounded out the poll.
A-10 Championship
·For the 10th time in school history, UMass will play host to the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament, May 6-9 at Sortino Field. The format features six teams in a double-elimination bracket, with the first and second-place teams based on regular-season winning pct. receiving day one byes.
·Tickets will cost between $3-$8 per day or you can grab a 4-day tournament pass for $12 (youth) or $24 (adult). Students of Atlantic 10 Conference schools are free to all games with a valid ID.
