2016 Softball Schedule Announced

AMHERST, Mass. - Head coach Kristi Stefanoni and the Massachusetts softball program have announced their 2016 competition schedule. Fifteen home games highlight the upcoming slate, in addition to five non-conference tournaments.

The Minutewomen will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to open their season in the Charlotte First Pitch Classic for a two-day, four-game set Feb. 13-14. UMass will take on host and former A-10 foe Charlotte, Toledo and Youngstown State.

On Feb. 19, the team will travel to nearby Greenville, N.C. for the ECU Pirate Clash. There, Stefanoni's squad battles host East Carolina, Bucknell and Saint Francis.

The Maroon and White are also participating in the Red & Blue Classic March 4-6, hosted by Ole Miss. The Minutewomen will play Belmont, Penn State and Ole Miss during their stay in Oxford.

The FAU Parent's Weekend Tournament will host UMass March 11-13 with Robert Morris, Minnesota, Long Island, Mercer and Penn State.

The final non-conference tournament will be the Maryland Invitational March 19-21. The Minutewomen will face Ball State, Maryland, Binghamton, North Dakota State and Boston University.

After opening A-10 play on the road for a three game set at Fordham beginning on March 25, UMass will play host to George Mason on April 2 for a doubleheader in their home opener. Other conference opponents visiting Sortino Field include Saint Joseph's (April 9-10), URI (April 12) and Dayton (May 7-8).

The Minutewomen also welcome Connecticut (April 5), Boston University (April 13), Boston College (April 21) and Bryant (May 5) to Amherst for non-conference home games.

The Atlantic 10 Tournament will be played in Washington, D.C. with the top six teams advancing to postseason play.

The 2016 roster features nine returning players from 2015 and six freshmen join the squad. The Minutewomen also welcome back 2014 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in Jena Cozza, who missed the 2015 season with an injury.
