Magill Named Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass softball junior second baseman Kyllie Magill was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team it was announced on Friday. With a cumulative GPA of 3.669 in Kinesiology, this is the Pawtucket, R.I. native's second-straight year receiving the honor.
A leader in the classroom and on the field for Head Coach Elaine Sortino's Minutewomen, Magill is batting .310 this season and leads the team in RBIs (24) from the leadoff spot, while also tying for the team lead in runs scored (22). She is hitting .367 in Atlantic 10 play with a .433 on-base percentage.
Joining Magill on the Academic All-Conference team are Charlotte's Tenaya Tucker and Whitney Williams, Dayton's Kathleen Maloof, Beckah Wiggins and Jen Mineau of Fordham, St. Bonaventure's Kara Morenus, Saint Joseph's Dana Parks, Saint Louis' Kristin Nicoletti and Samantha Schoell of Temple. Fordham's Mineau was also named A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row.
This is the 21st-straight year at least one of Sortino's players has been named A-10 Academic All-Conference.
A three-year starter at second base, Magill has a .309 career batting average in 145 career games and has started in over 100-straight.
Besides now being a two-time Academic All-Conference performer, Magill has also twice been named to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team, last season in 2010 as well as in 2009 when she also garnered A-10 All-Rookie honors.
Magill and the Minutewomen head to the Ocean State to face Rhode Island in a noon doubleheader on Saturday before returning to the UMass Softball Complex for Senior Day on Sunday against Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.
