Box Score

VILLANOVA, Pa. - A three-run seventh inning and a three-run eighth inning gave UMass softball (9-14, 3-3 A-10) a come-from-behind 6-4 victory in eight innings in game one against Saint Joseph's (19-11, 4-2 A-10) before the Hawks scored three runs in the sixth inning of game two to break a 2-2 tie and defeat the Minutewomen, 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Villanova Softball Complex.

Junior Kyllie Magill led the UMass offense from the leadoff spot, going a combined 6-for-9 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored. Senior Audrey Boutin had a pair of hits in each game, going a combined 4-for-7.

Sara Plourde (8-10) went all eight innings in game one to earn the victory. She struck out 12 batters while allowing four runs on four hits and four walks. Caroline Raymond (1-1) went the distance and took the loss in game two, allowing five runs, just two earned, on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Cyndil Matthew drove in two runs with a double to left-center and Magill drove in another run in the eighth inning of game one, and after Monica Aguilar hit a solo home run for St. Joe's in the bottom half of the inning, Plourde got a strikeout to give UMass its first extra-innings win of the season.

UMass trailed 2-0 going into the seventh inning, but a two-run home run by Lindsey Webster tied the game and with two outs, Plourde singled to drive in Magill after she doubled to give the Minutewomen a 3-2 lead, before the Hawks plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run home run by Shannon Kramer.

In the sixth inning of game two, with the score tied 2-2, the leadoff batter for SJU reached on an error and one out later Kramer doubled to right-center to put the Hawks on top 3-2. With two outs, Taylor Korpita hit a two-run home run to right-center to give the Hawks three unearned runs in the inning and a 5-2 lead they would not relinquish.

After St. Joe's took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by Kramer, UMass answered with two runs of its own in the second to tie the game. Teea Rogers led off with a double and scored on Tiffany Meeks' single and Magill later drove in Jordan Storro with a single through the right side.

UMass out-hit St. Joe's by a combined 20-11, but was plagued by five errors on the day, four in the game two loss.

The Minutewomen begin a five-game homestand on Wednesday when they host the home opener at the UMass Softball Complex, a doubleheader vs. Dartmouth slated for 2 p.m.
