AMBLER, Pa. - Teea Rogers and Tiffany Meeks each slugged grand slams to lead UMass softball (8-13, 2-2 A-10) to a 12-2 victory in five innings to earn a doubleheader split after falling in game one, 7-1, at Temple on Saturday afternoon at Ambler Field. The Minutewomen scored six runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth to end early what was a 2-2 game after three frames. The Owls scored all seven of its runs in game one in the first inning to cruise to victory.

Meeks combined to go 2-for-4 in the two games with the home run, a double, three walks, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Sara Plourde batted for the first time this season on Saturday, hitting for herself in game one and serving as the designated player in game two. She finished the day 3-for-6 with two runs driven in. Kyllie Magill finished with a three-hit day as well.

Caroline Raymond (1-0) pitched all five innings in game two to earn the victory in the first start of the freshman's career. The Downingtown, Pa. native allowed two runs on three hits and struck out four.

Plourde (7-10) took the loss in game one after Temple scored seven runs in the first inning on four hits, four walks, and one error. Stephanie Pasquale had the big hit of the inning, a three-run home run to right field. Plourde finished the game with 13 strikeouts, but walked seven.

After UMass scored single runs in the first and second innings of game two, Temple tied the game with single runs of its own in the second and third frames before UMass blew things open in the fourth. Cyndil Matthew and Magill led off with back-to-back singles, and after a sacrifice bunt by Lindsey Webster, Meghan Carta gave UMass the lead with a sacrifice fly to right field. After a walk, Plourde delivered a RBI single to right that made it a 4-2 game.

Another walk loaded the bases for Rogers, who drove starter Brooklin White's pitch over the center field fence for the grand slam, the first home run of the sophomore's career, making it a 8-2 game.

An error, a Carta single, and a hit batter loaded the bases again for UMass in the fifth inning, setting up Meeks, who drove reliever Kylie Kristovich's offering to the opposite field for the Minutewomen's second grand slam of the game and the freshman's third home run of the season, making it a 12-2 game.

Kristen Marris pitched the complete-game victory for the Owls in game one, allowing one run on four hits and struck out seven.

The Minutewomen conclude the weekend on Sunday with a doubleheader against Saint Joseph's set for noon at the Villanova Softball Complex.
