AMHERST, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference has released its 2010 softball All-Star teams with four UMass players taking honors. Sara Plourde was named the ECAC Pitcher of the Year, while Sarah Reeves (first base) and Katie Bettencourt (outfield) took first team honors and Carly Normandin (outfield) took second team honors.

Plourde had an impressive season, and leads the NCAA in strikeouts with 556 (12.5 per seven innings). She finished the season with a 40-8 record, and her 40 wins are good for tops in Division I. Plourde finished with 1.28 ERA, 17 shutouts, and five no-hitters. She led Massachusetts to its 15th straight NCAA tournament berth while being named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year and NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team.

Reeves finished her career with a bang, setting career-highs in batting average (.340), doubles (12), home runs (13), and RBIs (41). She led the Minutewomen in total bases with 110 and slugging percentage at .705, while tying for the club lead in homers. She finished her career second on the all-time UMass home run list with 33. Reeves was named NFCA All-Northeast Region and A-10 All-Conference First Team.

Bettencourt, after seeing just seven at-bats as a freshman in 2009, started every game in right field in 2010 and became one of the top bats in the A-10, batting .333 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs on her way to being named A-10 Co-Player of the Year. The sophomore batted .500 in conference play and was named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team.

Normandin finished her UMass career strong, batting .400 for the second season in a row to lead not only the Minutewomen but the conference as well in batting for the second-straight season. With seven doubles, two triples, and five home runs, she slugged .593 and reached base at a .474 clip, all while playing stellar defense in center field. The 2009 Player of the Year in the ECAC and the A-10, this season Normandin was named NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team and A-10 All-Conference First Team.

The ECAC named Boston University's April Setterlund its Player of the Year, Hofstra's Olivia Galati its Rookie of the Year, and Fordham's Bridget Orchard its Coach of the Year.

Besides Plourde, Reeves, and Bettencourt, the first team also includes Beckah Wiggins (Fordham), Alex Schultz (Maryland), Bianca Mejia (Long Island) and Michelle Fridey (Canisius). Joining Setterlund as first team outfield selections are Katie Bettencourt (Massachusetts) and Erin Fisher (Fordham). University of Maryland-Baltimore County's Amanda Fefel joins the first team as a utility player, with Longwood's Brooke Short selected as a designated player. Joining Plourde on the first team pitching staff is Jen Mineau of Fordham.

The ECAC is the nation's largest athletic and the only multi-divisional conference with approximately 300 Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois.
