Hayes, Smith Honored as New England Scholar-Athletes

AMHERST, Mass.- UMass senior captains Bobby Hayes and Ryan Smith were both named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar-Athlete Team. The two graduating seniors excelled in the classroom with over 3.0 GPAs and on the field for the Minutemen.

Hayes, who will play in the North-South All-Star Game with fellow senior captain Diogo Godoi on Friday, continues to collect postseason honors. A First-Team All-New England pick and Second-Team All-CAA, Hayes was third on the team in scoring and had points in all 14 games this season. He finished with career-best of 20 goals and 14 assists for 34 points. He had six multi-goal games including the first four games of the season. He netted a career-best four goals in the opener at Sacred Heart on Feb. 12.

Smith played in all 14 games for the Minutemen, starting the first 11 as a senior captain. The Dix Hills native scored four goals including his first career hat trick for the first three career goals vs. Hartford (2/20). He also scored vs. Providence on March 16.
