AMHERST, Mass. -

AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass men's lacrosse team joined forces with Athletes For America last weekend as the Minutemen players and coaches were all part of a two and a half hour CPR training session hosted by the campus EMT's. The men's lacrosse team is the first UMass team to become part of the AFA, and the athletic department is currently in discussions about how to include the remaining 550 student-athletes into the program.

"UMass and our lacrosse program are happy that Billy McGehee and Mike Sacenti have asked us to be part of AFA's charge for preparation and readiness," Head Coach Greg Cannella said Sunday. "It is a novel idea, one that will benefit each of our players and those who they touch in their everyday lives. We at UMass Men's Lacrosse hope we can help AFA in getting other college lacrosse programs and athletic departments to get involved in CPR and defibrillation training."

Athletes For America is a growing National and International Network of athletes, sports teams and sports organizations that are committed to promoting and participating in emergency preparedness training programs (CPR, First Aid, AED, CERT) so that we as a nation will be better prepared for any type of natural, manmade or day to day emergency.

Their mission is to utilize the strength of athletes and the power of the American sports system and media to help educate millions of Americans on how each one of us can become better prepared and trained for any type of natural, manmade or day to day emergency. The AFA hopes and plans to become America's largest Civilian Emergency Preparedness Network.
