The Minutemen moved to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the ECAC with their second win in a row.
• The Minutemen are currently in third place in the ECAC, with the Hobart Statesmen sitting in fourth place. Tim Balise Gains ECAC Honors
• Junior Tim Balise (Wilbraham, Mass.) was named the ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Balise scored a career-high six goals and had a career-best seven points in a 13-8 win at St. John's. It was the most goals in a game by a UMass player since Jeff Zywicki had six vs. Syracuse in the NCAA tournament in 2005. Balise had four goals in the first half as UMass built a 10-3 halftime lead. It is the most goals scored by an ECAC player in a game this season. Balise shares the league honors with Hobart's Daryl Veltman.
ECAC Co-Offensive Players of the Week to Face Off Against Each Other
• Tim Balise shared the ECAC honors with Hobart's Daryl Veltman. Veltman, a senior attack, scored a game-high five goals to lead Hobart to an 8-6 ECAC victory over Penn State on Saturday. His fourth goal of the day--a back-to-the-goal, underhand shot--gave him 100th for his career. Veltman is just the 16th Statesman to reach that career milestone and the first to do so playing exclusively at the Division I level. Veltman leads the ECAC in goals per game (3.00) and points per game (4.33).
The Series With Hobart
• The rivalry between UMass and Hobart was restarted four years ago when the Statesmen joined the ECAC in 2005. That 2005 game marked the first time in 20 years UMass and Hobart matched up. UMass leads the all-time series 6-2 and is 3-1 at Garber Field.
• Saturday's game marks the ninth time these two teams have met. UMass leads the all-time series 6-2 and is 3-1 at Garber Field. Last season, UMass defeated Hobart 17-12 on the road.
• Last year, the Minutemen defeated the Statesmen at Hobart 17-12.
• The last time UMass lost to Hobart was on May 4, 1985 in Geneva, N.Y. Hobart won the first meeting, 13-2 in 1972 in the USILA Semifinals.
