AMHERST, Mass. - A slew of former Minutemen lacrosse players are in action this season in Major League Lacrosse. Ten former UMass players are listed on rosters along with current assistant coach Jake Coon. With Chris Fiore, Coon and the Boston Cannons take on the Long Island Lizards on Friday night in a game that will air on ESPN2. The Chicago Machine feature five former Minutemen: Jake Deane, Kevin Leveille, Sean Morris, Dan Paccione and Greg Scott.

Coon has made 30 saves in his first team games as the starting goalie for the Cannons this season. Fiore has not played in the first two games.

For Chicago, Leveille opened the year with five goals in a loss to Los Angeles last weekend. Morris and Paccione each had an assist while Deane had seven groundballs and won five face-offs.

Long Island, which begins its season Friday has one former Minutemen in defenseman Stephen Byrnes.

Rochester features a pair of former Minutemen All-Americans in defenseman Jack Reid and attacker Jeff Zywicki. The Rattlers open their season on Saturday against the Washington Bayhawks.

Washington -- which moved from Baltimore in the off season -- will once again look to one lacrosse' great stars and UMass alum Mark Millon. In the Bayhawks' first game against Boston on May 12, the UMass Hall of Famer had a goal and two assists.
