Connolly, Schneider, Garber Pick Up ECAC Lacrosse Weekly Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass had three players honored by the ECAC Lacrosse League this week. Sophomore attacker Jim Connolly was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Sophomore goalie Doc Schneider was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Senior midfielder Brett Garber was named to the Honor Roll. Each played key roles in UMass' 2-0 week as the Minutemen beat Fairfield (10-7) and No. 12 Syracuse (9-7).
Sophomore Jim Connolly shared the Offensive Player of the Week honor with Brian Boyle of Penn State. Connolly scored six goals in UMass' 2-0 week as they Minutemen beat Fairfield (10-7) and No. 12 Syracuse (9-7) on national-TV ESPNU. Connolly had a hat trick in each game and scored the game-winning goal in each game. Connolly now has five hat tricks this season.
Sophomore Doc Schneider shared the Defensive Player of the Week award with Christiaan Trunz of Georgetown. Schneider led UMass to two wins, 10-7 over Fairfield and 9-7 over No. 12 Syracuse before a national-TV audience on ESPNU. Schneider made a career-high tying 19 saves in the win over Syracuse and made 14 stops against Fairfield. Schneider made outstanding point-blank saves and was amazing in both games. He allowed just 14 goals total for a 7.00 goals against average in the two games. He compiled a 70.2 save percentage in the two games.
Senior Brett Garber was named to the Honor Roll. Playing on Senior Day on his grandfather's field for the final time, Garber netted a hat trick for the eighth time in his career. It was an emotional game for Garber who played at the highest level before a national-TV audience on ESPNU. Garber also scored a goal against Fairfield in Tuesday's win. Garber has points in all 13 games this season.
