Proctor And Cullington Earn A-10 Weekly Awards

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior Lauren Proctor (La Jolla, Calif.) and sophomore Brandice Balschmiter (Newark, N.Y.) each earned weekly awards from the Atlantic 10 Conference Monday for their performances in UMass' 4-0 week in league play. Proctor was named the co-Player of the Week while Balschmiter earns her second straight and third overall Pitcher of the Week award. Proctor shares the award with Fordham's Melissa Andrews.
Proctor batted a team-high .700 (7-10) as the Minutewomen won all four of their conference games last week. She had two doubles, a home run and six RBI while also scoring five runs and stealing a base. Proctor compiled a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage. In a doubleheader sweep of Rhode Island on Tuesday, Proctor batted 6-for-7 and hit her first home run of the season and is now second on the team with a .383 batting average and 25 RBI.
Balschmiter went 4-0 with a 0.30 ERA on the week while improving to 15-8 on the season and lowering her ERA to 1.51. She started four games, three complete games, and had three shutouts. Balschmiter allowed just one run on eight hits and two walks in 23.0 innings. She tallied 34 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .105 batting average while averaging 1.5 k's per inning. Balschmiter had two double-figure strikeout games including a season-high 12 in the second game of a doubleheader against Saint Louis.
In a doubleheader sweep of Saint Louis on Sunday, Massachusetts extended the nation's longest home winning streak to 21 games. The Minutewomen now embark on an eight-game road trip beginning Wednesday at Boston College. First-pitch of the single game is set for 4:00 PM.
