Balschmiter And Cullington Honored By A-10

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior second baseman Stacy Cullington (Encinitas, Calif.) and sophomore pitcher Brandice Balschmiter (Newark, N.Y.) were each honored by the Atlantic 10 Monday afternoon. Cullington was named the league's co-Player of the Week while Balschmiter was tabbed the Pitcher of the Week. This is the second award this season for each of them. They led the Minutewomen to a 4-0 week including 2-0 in A-10 games.
Cullington hit .455 (5-for-11) on the week and had two doubles, a home run and five RBI while also scoring four times. She compiled a .909 slugging percentage as well as a .571 on-base percentage, walked three times and stole a base. Her home run came in a 5-2 win against Dayton (Mar. 31) that was part of a 3-for-4 day with a double as well. She leads the team with eight doubles, five home runs and 26 RBI.
Balschmiter went 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA on the week. She had two shutouts and a no-hitter agasinst Dartmouth (3/28), the second one in her career. Balschmiter also tossed a one-hit shutout against Dayton (3/30) where the only hit was a single that went one foot in front of the plate. She allowed just five hits on the week for a .079 opponent's batting average and had 24 strikeouts and six walks in 19.0 innings pitched. Balschmiter allowed just two balls to leave the infield all week, both fly outs in game two against Dayton (3/30). She struck out a season-high 11 Dartmouth batters in the no-hitter and had seven and six in the two games against Dayton.
