Stacy Cullington Named A-10 Softball Player Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts junior second baseman Stacy Cullington (Encinitas, Calif.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. Cullington hit a team-best .524 as the Minutewomen compiled a 4-3 record and advanced to the semifinal game of the silver flight at the adidas Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., March 8-11.
Cullington batted a team-high .524 (11-21) as UMass went 4-3 and advanced to the semifinals of the silver flight at the USF/adidas Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. (3/8-3/11). She had five doubles, a home run and 10 RBI on the weekend while compiling a .905 slugging percentage, .583 on-base percentage and also scored three runs. She hit a game-winning grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to help UMass overcome a two-run deficit and defeat Indiana 8-5 (3/8). Cullington had a pair of three-hit games on the weekend (3/8 vs. Indiana and 3/10 vs. Jacksonville) and also had two hits against Illinois-Chicago (3/9).
The Minutewomen will head right back to the Sunshine State next weekend for seven games on the campus of Florida Atlantic University. First, UMass will participate in the FAU Parent's Weekend Tournament March 16-18 where it will face Rutgers, Quinnipiac, Michigan State and Texas A&M in pool play before the championship rounds. UMass will then close out the weekend with a doubleheader vs. Florida Atlantic on Monday, March 19, beginning at 6:00 PM. All games next weekend will be broadcast online at www.umassathletics.com.
