UMass Alums Set For MLL Semifinals

CARSON, Calif. - A pair of UMass alums lead their Major League Lacrosse into the league playoffs this weekend. Chris Fiore has been hot for the Boston Cannons all season with 31 points and leads his team against the Philadelphia Barrage. Jeff Zywicki has helped the Denver Outlaws to the playoffs where they will play the San Francisco Dragons.
The semifinals kick off at 6:00 PT with the number one seeded Denver Outlaws taking on their conference rivals, the San Francisco Dragons. At 8:30 PT the Philadelphia Barrage and Boston Cannons will face-off. The MLL Championship Game will be shown live on ESPN2 at 2:00 PST. Joe Beninati and Quint Kessenich will call all the action from the 2006 New Balance Championship Weekend.
Major League Lacrosse is pleased to announce that this season's semifinals will be shown live through webcast. You can log onto www.budlight.com to watch both games, live from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. This is the first time in MLL history that the semifinals will be shown live.
New Balance Championship Weekend
Semifinals - August 25th at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Championship Game - August 27th at 2:00 p.m.
Fiore is third on the Cannons in scoring with those 31 points on 21 goals and nine assists. UMass assistant coach Jake Coon is the Cannons back-up goalie, starting one game and winning with an 11.0 GAA and 15 saves.
Zywicki, who was acquired from San Francisco during the season, scored three of the Outlaws' final four goals to propel Denver to a 13-9 victory over the Los Angeles Riptide in their regular-season finale. Zywicki's performance earned the newest Outlaw MVP honors as his four-goal game helped Denver to complete its inaugural regular season with a league-tying best 10-2 record.
Since joining the Outlaws after leading Team Canada to the World Championships, Zywicki has played in four games and has six goals and three assists.
