UMass Alum Zywicki Starring For Team Canada In Lacrosse World Championships

LONDON, Ontario - Former UMass All-American Jeff Zywicki has been been one of the top players at the 2006 World Lacrosse Championships in London, Ontario.
The attacker has helped Team Canada into the playoff round with 14 goals and four assists. After the preliminary rounds featuring five games for each team, Zywicki is the sixth-leading scorer among all players in the event.
Team Canada placed second overall to Team USA after the prelims and will take on Team Finland on Thursday with a chance to advance to the next round. The finals will be held on Saturday, July 22.
Zywicki has posted a pair of five-goal games beginning with Canada's opener, an 18-7 win over Japan on July 14. He also tallied five goals in Canada's heart-breaking 13-12 loss to Team USA on July 16. Zywicki added a goal and two assists in a 12-9 win over Australia and three goals and two assists against the Iroqouis Nationals on July 18 in a 17-9 victory.
Among the only players to have more points that Zywicki are his teammate John Grant Jr. (27 points) and the Powell brothers, who played at Syracuse, Michael (25) and Ryan (23).
Zywicki had an All-American career at UMass from 2001-05 where he tallied 146 points on 103 goals and 43 assists to stand 16th all-time in career scoring. He is ninth all-time in goals scored at UMass.
