AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts sophomore left fielder Lauren Proctor (La Jolla, Calif.) has been named a third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. She compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.75 in Journalism. The Academic All-District teams are chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and be either a starter or a key reserve on his or her team. First-team All-District selections are then eligible for Academic All-America accolades. Proctor is one of just 33 NCAA Division I softball players named to the three All-America teams.
Proctor finished the 2006 season fourth on the team and 10th in the Atlantic 10 with a .364 batting average. Proctor, who spent much of the last few weeks of the season flirting with .400, also added 30 runs scored, 60 hits, 10 doubles, a triple, one home run and 20 RBI. She compiled a .455 slugging percentage, a .419 on-base percentage as well as a .968 fielding percentage. Proctor was 8-for-9 in stolen base attempts and made just one error all season in the outfield.
Massachusetts finished the 2006 season 41-16 and advanced to the Super Regionals before eventually falling to No. 4 Northwestern in three-games. The Minutewomen shared the Atlantic 10 regular season title, won the postseason tournament and advanced out of NCAA Regional play for the first time since 1998.
