Balschmiter Named A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts freshman pitcher Brandice Balschmiter (Newark, N.Y.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Softball co-Rookie of the Week. She is being honored for her performance last week as the Minutewomen went 4-1, 1-1 in A-10 play. This marks the eighth A-10 award this season for Balschmiter. She has now been a a two-time Rookie of the Week honoree and a six-time Pitcher of the Week
Balschmiter went 2-1 on the week with a 0.00 ERA. Both of her wins came via the shutout and she fired two one-hitters. Balschmiter had a no-hitter into the sixth inning of a tough 1-0 loss at Saint Louis on Sunday. The lone run she allowed on the week crossed the plate via two passed balls in the Saint Louis game. Balschmiter also fired a one-hit shutout against Harvard and a five-hit shutout at Boston College. Balschmiter allowed just seven hits in 21 innings for a .101 opponent's batting average. She walked seven and struck out 23 batters. Balschmiter, who ranks ninth in the country with a 0.68 ERA, has allowed just three earned runs in the last 85.0 innings pitched for a 0.25 ERA.
