INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Massachusetts Softball team (37-14-1) will be heading to Austin, Texas to participate in the NCAA Regional Tournament, May 20-22, as announced by the selection committee Sunday evening. UMass will be seeded fourth in their four-team regional and will face top-seeded Texas. Mississippi State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are also in Austin, Texas. Times will be announced later this week.
"We will be going up against one of the finest pitchers in the country (Texas ace Cat Osterman)," said UMass Head Coach Elaine Sortino. "We certainly will have to do our homework. This team is in a great place and playing their finest softball at the best time of the year. We are looking forward to a great regional."
Massachusetts just captured its 17th Atlantic 10 Tournament title yesterday with a 7-0 blanking of top-seeded Fordham. UMass won the tournament in three games and scored 11 runs off A-10 Pitcher of the Year Sara Kinney in just eight innings.
The Minutewomen are making their 11th straight and 15th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. This ranks as the sixth-longest active streak in the nation.
