Many Former Minutemen Selected In MLL Supplemental Draft

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass had 10 former Minutemen selected in the Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft on Tuesday. Matt MacFarland was taken by the San Francisco Dragons with the 24th overall pick in the third round, the highest selection for a UMass player in the draft. Chris Doyle who finished his career last spring was picked in the fourth round by the expansion Denver Outlaws.

Doyle, who was a two-time All-ECAC selection at UMass, was the 32nd overall pick. Doyle was an NEILA Scholar-Athlete in 2005. Doyle finished his career with 76 points on 61 goals and 15 assists. His best season came as a junior when he scored 25 goals and totaled 30 points in 2004.

Doyle was followed by Dan Paccione, who was taken 33rd overall in the fourth round by the new Chicago team. Paccione played at UMass from 1999-2002 and is currently an assistant coach at Stony Brook.

Mark Morley was taken in the sixth round by the New Jersey Pride with the 55th overall pick. Morley has played for several pro teams in the MLL and NLL.

New UMass assistant coach Jake Coon was taken in the eighth round by the Boston Cannons and will vie for a goaltending position.

Stephen Byrnes, who last played in 2004, was taken by the Long Island Lizards in the eighth round as well.

Two-sport athlete Greg Scott, who just finished his football career at UMass this fall after a four-year career in lacrosse, was taken by the Lizards in the ninth round.

Former UMass star defenseman and former assistant coach Chris Gabrielli was taken by Chicago in the 11th round.

In the 17th round, goalie John Kasselakis was taken by the Philadelphia Barrage.

Matt Garcia, who finished his career last spring, was taken by Long Island in the 19th round. Garcia was an honorable mention All-American and All-ECAC selection with the Minutemen.

Goalie Chris Campolettano was taken in the 20th round by the New Jersey Pride. He played at UMass from 1997-2001.
