Holtz And Team Canada Win Prague Softball Cup

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Former UMass pitcher and current softball assistant coach Kaila Holtz went 3-0 and did not allow a run as Team Canada won the Prague Softball Cup July 29-Aug. 1 in its final tune-up before the Olympic Games later this month.
"This tournament was a great prep for us," said Holtz. " We were able get some innings of good competition in before heading to Greece. The team is feeling great and we are excited to get to the olympic village."
Holtz threw a two-hit shutout over Chinese Taipei July 31 in the final game of round robin play which set up a rematch for the championship. She did not walk a batter and fanned three in the win. Holtz then picked up the win in relief as the Canadians won a sluggfest over Chinese Taipei, 7-5, in the championship game. She worked 2.1 scoreless innings. Chinese Taipei is the No. 3 ranked team in the world.
In the first round, Holtz threw four scoreless innings for the win in a 3-0 triumph over the Netherlands July 29.
Canada will now head to the Olympic Village in Athens for the Olympic Games later this month.
