Franke Named To NCAA All-Tournament Team

ATHENS, Ga. - University of Massachusetts softball center fielder Aisha Franke (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named to the NCAA Region 8 All-Tournament team yesterday. Franke batted .875 (7-8) with a RBI and three stolen bases as UMass went 1-2 at the regional hosted by the University of Georgia and finished the year with a 34-17 record. Franke recorded a hit in her final six at bats of the tournament.
In the Minutewomen's 1-0 loss to No. 23 Georgia Tech on May 20, Franke had just one of two infield hits on the day that they could muster off of Tech's Jessica Sallinger. She responded later that night with a 3-3 performance as UMass staved off elimination with a 4-1 win over Eastern Kentucky. Franke then went 3-3 on May 21 when UMass was eliminated by Michigan State, 13-5.
Franke finished her stellar UMass career tied for sixth all-time with a .345 batting average. She also had 56 career stolen bases, good for fifth all-time on the UMass charts. At the beginning of this season, she was selected as one of the initial 40 player on USA Softball's Player of the Year Watch List.
