Kelli Arnold Named Player of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts junior pitcher Kelli Arnold (Kalama, Wash.) was named the Dinn Brothers/UMass Athlete of the Week announced at the weekly sports luncheon this afternoon. Arnold went 1-1 with a 0.41 ERA at last week's A-10 Tournament. She threw an eight-inning no-hitter against Fordham which was the longest ever in A-10 Tournament play. The only two base runners she allowed against the Rams were via a hit batsman and she fanned two. Arnold allowed just one ball to leave the infield and retired the final 16 batters she faced.
For the weekend, Arnold gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits and four walks while fanning 12 in17.0 innings en route to All-Tournament team honors. It was the first no-no in the tournament since Virginia Tech's Ashlee Dobbe did it against Dayton on May 11, 2000. Danielle Henderson also accomplished this feat against Temple on May 2, 1997. Arnold's no-hitter, which was the longest one in the history of the tournament, was the fourth in UMass postseason history. It also marked the second solo no-hitter of her career and 61st in UMass history.
Arnold is currently 19-6 with a 1.62 ERA. She and the Minutewomen are in Athens, Ga., preparing for the NCAA Tournament. Massachusetts (33-15) will face Georgia Tech (45-16) tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Every UMass Softball game from the NCAA Regional Tournament will be broadcast on the radio and Internet for free.
