MONTREAL, Quebec - The University of Massachusetts hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie in regulation, but defeated the Patriotes of Quebec-Trois Rivieres in a shootout, 2-1, to claim the exhibition victory. The win does not count towards UMass' overall record.

The Minutemen got goals in regulation from Josh Hanson (Medford, Mass.) and James Solon (Acton, Mass.). Solon's goal was scored after a Mark Matheson (Calgary, Alberta) blast was knocked down by the Q-TR goalie, but Solon knocked home the rebound. However, the Patriotes tied the game up, sending the two teams into overtime. After skating 4-on-4 in the overtime session and neither team pushing the puck across, Craig MacDonald (Canton, Mass.) and Thomas Pock (Klagenfurt, Austria) scored for the Minutemen to claim the shootout victory, 2-1.

The Minutemen will return to the states for a two-game set against No. 3-ranked Maine on January 16-17 in Orono, Maine. Face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. both nights. For ticket information, call the UMass ticket office at 1-866-UMASS-TIX.
