QMJHL MVP Maxim Massé Set To Join Massachusetts Hockey For 2026-27

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 6-3, 198-pound right shot forward Maxim Massé to its incoming freshman class for 2026-27. The Rimouski, Quebec, native was selected in the third round (66th overall) by the Anaheim Ducks in 2024. He is the fourth new addition for next season's roster, joining forwards Max Curran and Melvin Novotny and defenseman Barrett Dexheimer.
"Max is a highly-touted Canadian prospect known for his strong offensive instincts and well-rounded game, said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "He has earned attention for his scoring ability, vision on the ice and consistent effort in all three zones. As he continues to develop, Max will be a force and an impact player. We look forward to the impact he will make."
Over four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, Massé totaled 298 career points on 149 goals and 149 assists over 242 regular season games and was +81. He also logged 39 points (11g, 28a) in 44 postseason contests during that span.
In his final junior hockey campaign in 2025-26, Massé won the Jean Beliveau Trophy for leading the QMJHL in points with 102 on 51 goals and 51 assists and took home the Michel Brière trophy as the QMJHL Most Valuable Player. He amassed 24 points (6g, 18a) in 20 postseason games to help the Saguenéens to the QMJHL championship.
In 2023-24, Massé represented Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup (5g, 1a) and the Under 18 World Junior Championship (2g, 3a), winning gold at both tournaments. In addition, he was named the QMJHL Best Professional Prospect after logging 75 points (36, 39a) in 67 games with Chicoutimi.
Massé collected a host of honors in his first season with the Saguenéens as he was honored as the 2022-23 CHL Rookie of the Year, QMJHL Rookie of the Year and named to the CHL and QMJHL All-Rookie Teams. That season he led all QMJHL Rookies in goals (29) and points (62) and took home the Michel Bergeron Trophy as QMJHL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
