AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has announced that 5-11, 176-pound, left shot defenseman Barrett Dexheimer will join the squad for 2026-27. The Edina, Minnesota native is the first member of the Minutemen's incoming freshman class for next season.

"Barrett Dexheimer is a smooth-skating, smart defenseman from Minnesota," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "He played the last two seasons in the USHL for the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Des Moines Buccaneers. Barrett was teammates with Václav Nestrašil and Jack Galanek when the Lumberjacks captured 2025 Clark Cup Championship. He will bring experience and consistency to our team with the championship experience he possesses."

Dexheimer played 117 career games in the United States Hockey League (USHL) across two seasons, recording 26 points on two goals and 24 assists. During Muskegon's run to the 2025 Clark Cup, he had 10 points across 65 games in 2024-25. He ended his junior career with two goals and five assists for seven points in 21 games in De Moines.

Prior to his time in the USHL Dexheimer played three years of high school hockey for Edina High where he won a Class AA state title in 2023-24 and was named to the All-Tournament team.
