AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has announced that 6-3, 187-pound left shot forward Max Curran has been added to the roster for 2026-27. The Prague, Czechia native, who was drafted in the fifth round (161st overall) by Colorado in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, is the second member of the Minutemen's incoming freshman class, joining defenseman Barrett Dexheimer.

"Max is a big centerman that hails from Czechia," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "A Calgary Flames prospect, Max is most known for his playmaking ability.  When Max has a little bit of space, he will find quick passes to teammates with speed, and contribute to our offensive identity of fast, hard, prepared."

In 141 career Western Hockey League (WHL) games, Curran put up 150 points on 42 goals and 108 assists while playing for the Tri-City Americans (2023-25) and Edmonton Oil Kings. This past season with Edmonton, he registered 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 31 games prior to suffering a season-ending injury in January. He was named the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year in 2024-25.

Curran has represented Czechia at the U17, U18 and U20 levels to date, including at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2023-24 and the 2026 World Junior Championship, earning silver medals in both tournaments. At World Juniors, where he skated alongside Minutemen Vaclav Nestrasil and Micahel Hrabal, he had five points (1g, 4a) in seven games and was +3.
