#17 Massachusetts Hockey Outlasts New Hampshire For 4-2 Win

March 07, 2026 | Hockey

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Matthew Wilde scored the go-ahead goal with under five minutes to play in the third period to lift No. 17 Massachusetts hockey to a 4-2 win over New Hampshire on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center. With the victory, the Minutemen improve to 21-12-1 overall, 14-9-1 in Hockey East, while the Wildcats drop to 14-19-1, 8-15-1 in league action.

UMass opened the scoring 5:14 into the first period as Larry Keenan blocked a shot on the penalty kill and skated the length of the ice to pot a shorthanded tally that gave the Minutemen a 1-0 advantage.

UNH responded with a special teams' goal of its own at the 9:54 mark. Conner de Haro put the puck deep into the offensive zone and bounced over goaltender Michael Hrabal's stick to Felix Gagnon. Gagnon found Marty Lavins in front for the finish into an open net.

UMass pulled back in front before the intermission with a power-play goal of its own. Keenan and freshman Václav Nestrašil passed around the perimeter, setting up a one-timer blast by Daniel Jencko from the right faceoff dot at 19:04.

After a scoreless second, the Wildcats equalized off an offensive zone faceoff win by Cam MacDonald who fed the puck back to Kristaps Skrastins for a one-timer 4:52 into the third.

With the threat of overtime looming, Wilde batted home a loose puck from Mikey DeAngelo at the near post at the 14:42 mark for his first goal in a UMass uniform.

Freshman Jack Galanek cemented the win with an empty net tally with 50 seconds to play from senior Owen Murray.

UNH ended the contest with a 28-23 shot advantage and went 1-for-3 on the power play, while UMass was 1-for-4. Hrabal totaled 26 saves in the victory and Wildcats netminder Kyle Chauvette finished with 19 stops.

The Minutemen will await their Hockey East Quarterfinals opponent for next weekend. Game date and time to be announced.
