SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Former University of Massachusetts softball pitcher/designated player Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, British Columbia) gave up one run on two hits in a complete game effort as the Canadian National Team defeated Puerto Rico, 13-1, this afternoon in its first game at the Pan Am Games.

Canada scored thirteen runs on fourteen hits, and three errors committed by Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico scored one run, on two hits, and two Canadian errors.

Canada (1-0) will now take on the United States (0-0) tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in both squads' second game of the tournament. The U.S. faces Cuba Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
