Kaila Holtz 2-0 At Americas Olympic Qualifier

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico - Former University of Massachusetts softball pitcher/designated player Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, British Columbia) is 2-0 this week and has helped lead the Canadian Softball team to a 7-0 record in round-robin play at the Americas Olympic Qualifier. Holtz has tossed 10 scoreless innings while fanning 12 batters and walking just one. She has scattered five hits in her two games in the circle.
On Tuesday, Holtz fanned seven batters and did not surrender a walk en route to a 9-0 shutout over Puerto Rico. She took a no-hitter into the fifth innings, but was touched for two singles in the final frame. Then on Wednesday, she scattered three hits while walking one and fanning five in a 7-0 win over Venezuela.
Canada, who will play its final round-robin game against the Cayman Islands today at 4:00 p.m., is 7-0 thus far and had clinched the top seed in this weekend's best-of-three championship series. The winner will advance to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Team Canada has yielded a tournament-low two runs in the seven games.
