AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts softball coaches Elaine Sortino, Danielle Henderson and Kim Burke have been named the Speedline/National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year. The trio will now be up for the national award which will be released later this month.

The Minutewomen finished 39-15 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2003 where they were 3-2 at the Tuscaloosa, Ala., regional, good for third-place out of eight teams. Massachusetts captured its ninth straight Atlantic 10 Championship and 16th overall this past season.

This is the fourth time that Sortino and her assistants have been the Northeast region staff of the year.
