Holtz To Represent Canada At Olympic Qualifier

OTTAWA, Ontario - Softball Canada has announced that University of Massachusetts senior pitcher/designated player Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, British Columbia) has been selected to the roster which will represent Canada at the America's Olympic qualification tournament in Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico, July, 21-27.
Holtz is no stranger to International competition as she was also a member of the 2002 Canada Cup squad, 2002 Women's ISF World Softball Championship team, 2001 Canadian National Team and the 1999 Canadian Junior Team.
"Kaila is very deserving of this honor," said UMass Head Coach Elaine Sortino. "She works extremely hard and will represent her country well. She is a big-game pitcher who has proven her ability to succeed under the international spotlight."
Below is the schedule for Team Canada at the qualifier. The winner of this event, along with the winners of the Asia/Pacific and Europe/Africa qualifiers will join the USA, Chinese Taipei, Japan, China and Greece at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. The top two teams after the eight head-to-head matchups will play a best-of-three series to determine who will advance into next summer's Olympic Games.
