OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - University of Massachusetts senior shortstop Emily Robustelli (Stamford, Conn.) was named a third team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American it was announced at this evening's Women's College World Series Opening Ceremonies. This is the first such award for Robustelli and the 15th for the Minutewoman softball program.

"I think Emily being named an All-American is a great end to a long career of hard work and determination," said UMass head coach Elaine Sortino. "She is the most deserving recipient and was a big part of what we were this year. I am very happy for her and her family, and I'm so proud of what she has accomplished."

Robustelli, who was also the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and A-10 Tournament Most Outstanding Performer, finished second on the team this year with a .364 average. She led the club with 43 runs scored, 64 hits, 15 doubles, four triples, 105 total bases and a .597 slugging percentage. Robustelli also had six home runs and was second on the team with 35 RBI.

For her career, Robustelli is second in school history in runs scored (160), fifth in hits (223), third in doubles (48), sixth in triples (16), tied for fourth in home runs (11), eighth in RBI (117), second in extra-base hits (75), fifth in walks (69) and 10th in stolen bases (39).

In addition to her Player of the Year citation this season, she has been a three-time All-Conference pick, two-time All-Region selection, a two-time New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association All-Star as well as a 2003 Verizon Academic All-District I first team selection.

Massachusetts finished the 2003 season with a 39-15 record and captured its 16 A-10 Conference championship. The Minutewomen finished third at the NCAA Regional Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala., with a 3-2 record. It was the most wins for a UMass team in the NCAA Tournament since 1998.
