Amherst, Mass. - University of Massachusetts senior Jennifer Hadley (Bristol, Conn.) was named a third team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. This is the first such award for Hadley and the 14th for the Minutewoman softball program.
Hadley ranked fifth nationally with a 0.69 ERA and led the Atlantic 10 with 25 wins this season. She limited her opponents to 129 hits overall and 16 extra-base hits in 193.0 innings pitched. Hadley tossed nine shutouts and recorded 147 strikeouts, while walking just 41 batters.
Hadley finished her career at UMass fifth all-time with 57 victories and was sixth with 376 career strikeouts and 91 career appearances. Her 0.69 ERA this season ranked fourth on the UMass chart. She also leaves with numerous other accolades, including 2002 first team All-Region and 2001 Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year.
"I think Jen being named an All-American is a great end to a long career of hard work and determination," said head coach Elaine Sortino. "Jen is the most deserving recipient and was a big part of what we were this year. I am very happy for her and her family, and I'm so proud of what she has accomplished."
