University of Massachusetts head men's lacrosse coach Greg Cannella announced today the hiring of Terry Mangan as an assistant coach for the Minutemen.

"I'm excited to be joining such a prestigious lacrosse program," said Mangan. "This is a wonderful opportunity for me for to work at a world-class university with a deep tradition of lacrosse excellence."

Prior to his tenure at UMass, Mangan was an assistant at Hobart College for four seasons, where he coordinated the defense and served as the goalie coach. The Statesmen went 26-26 over that span with two NCAA Tournament appearances.

"We are pleased to be adding a coach of Terry's status to our program," said Cannella. "Terry brings a wealth of lacrosse knowledge to the table, particularly in the defensive end and in the cage. He is an excellent addition to the UMass lacrosse family."

Mangan went to Hobart from the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as an assistant coach during the 1996 season. Prior to his stint at Pennsylvania, Mangan was an assistant for two seasons at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Mangan has also served as an assistant coach at Washington College (Md.) and head coach at Archbishop Spalding High School from 1990 through 1992.

Mangan graduated from Roanoke College in Salem, Va., in 1988 after playing four years of lacrosse. He was a standout goalie and team captain as a senior. The Maroons advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of his four seasons. Mangan graduated with 452 career saves, which was good enough for third all-time at Roanoke.
