Men's Soccer Falls To South Carolina, 2-1

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team fell to South Carolina, 2-1, tonight in Columbia, S.C., in front of 1,801 people in the season opener for both teams.
South Carolina got on the board first with a goal by Jordan Quinn at the 14:13 mark. UMass answered back when senior co-captain Patrick Beattie (Mobile, Ala.) put the ball in the top right corner off a corner kick by sophomore Derek Rhodes (DePere, Wis.), at the 15:08 mark.
South Carolina earned the victory when Dave Moore scored at the 62:35 mark, with assists to Tim Glowienka and Quinn.
Junior goalie Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) anchored the UMass defense with six saves, while Henry Ring stopped five shots for the Gamecocks.
The Minutemen return to action when they host Hartford on September 6, at 3:30 p.m., at Totman Field.
