AMHERST, Mass. -- Four members of the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team have been selected to the 2000 All-New England teams. Sophomore defender Matt McFarland (Garden City, N.Y.) led the way by earning first team All-New England honors. Junior goaltender Chris Campolettano (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Jeremy Guski (Mahopac, N.Y.) were both second team All-New England selections, while junior midfielder Alex Racioppi (Winchester, Mass.) earned honorable mention distinction.
McFarland started every game of the season on defense for the Minutemen, helping the squad to a 10.75 team goals against average. Under his leadership, the UMass defense held eight out of its 14 opponents this year to 10 goals or less. McFarland also picked up 74 groundballs on the season, to rank second on the team. Last summer, McFarland played on the gold medal-winning United States team at the Under-19 World Championship in Australia.
Campolettano started all 14 of UMass' games in goal, playing all but 33 minutes on the season. He made 164 saves while allowing only 147 goals, with his 164 saves ranking as the 12th-highest single season total in school history. At Georgetown on Apr. 22, Campolettano set a new career-high with 20 saves. Some of his other top games this season came against Butler and Navy, with 15 saves in each contest. Campolettano finished the season with a goals against average of 10.89, to go along with a 52.7 save percentage.
Guski started all 14 games this season at midfielder, and finished the year fifth on the team in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists. He had one of his top games of the season in the win over Harvard on Apr. 19, scoring a pair of goals and assisting on one other. Guski also had a big game earlier in the season at Stony Brook, totaling two goals and two assists. Following the completion of his junior year, Guski now has career totals of 30 goals and 17 assists for 47 points.
Racioppi played in all 14 games for the Minutemen, starting the final six and totaling 24 points on 22 goals and two assists. His 22 goals ranked second on the team, with his 24 total points ranking fourth. Racioppi's top game of the season came at Georgetown, when he scored a career-high seven goals. He also closed out the season on fire, totaling 18 goals in the final six games, with at least two goals in each contest. Racioppi concludes his junior year with career totals of 34 points on 30 goals and four assists.
