AMHERST, Mass. -- Junior attackman Rich Kunkel (Centereach, N.Y.) scored five goals and added one assist, to lead the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team to a 16-11 victory over Rutgers at Richard F. Garber Field. UMass improves its overall record to 6-7 with the win, and finishes its inaugural season in the ECAC with a 2-4 conference record. Rutgers falls to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the ECAC.

The Minutemen never trailed in the game, and jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after one quarter of play. The Scarlet Knights cut the UMass lead to only one goal on two occasions, at 5-4 in the second quarter and 8-7 in the third quarter, but Rutgers would get no closer. The Minutemen would go on a 4-0 run midway through the fourth quarter, turning a 12-10 lead into a 16-10 advantage and putting the game out of reach.
