Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 16 Brown 14-10

AMHERST, Mass. -- Junior attackman Rich Kunkel (Centereach, N.Y.) scored two goals and added a career-high five assists, but it was not enough as the the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 16 Brown 14-10 in its season finale at Richard F. Garber Field. UMass concludes the season with an overall record of 6-8, while Brown finished the year with a 9-6 mark.
Brown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, then increased the margin to 5-1 early in the second quarter. The Bears held a 9-2 advantage after the end of the second quarter, then increased the lead to eight goals at 12-4 following the third quarter of play. The Minutemen made a run early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 12-7, but Brown scored twice before UMass netted the final three goals of the game.
Junior attackman John Madigan (Latham, N.Y.) had two goals and an assist on the afternoon, while junior midfielder Alex Racioppi (Winchester, Mass.) scored a pair of goals. Junior Chris Campolettano (Massapequa, N.Y.) made 12 saves in goal for the Minutemen.
Brown was led by junior attackman Michael Monfett with three goals and three assists on the day, while sophomore midfielder Todd McNamara and junior attackman Jeremy Metz both had two goals and one assist. Junior Beret Dickson totaled 22 saves in net for the Bears.
