AMHERST, Mass. -- Three members of the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team have been selected to the 2000 All-Eastern College Athletic Conference teams. Sophomore defender Matt McFarland (Garden City, N.Y.) led the way by earning first team All-ECAC honors, while junior attackman Rich Kunkel (Centereach, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Alex Racioppi (Winchester, Mass.) were both named to the second team.

McFarland started every game of the season on defense for the Minutemen, helping the squad to a 10.75 team goals against average. Under his leadership, the UMass defense held eight out of its 14 opponents this year to 10 goals or less. McFarland also picked up 74 groundballs on the season, to rank second on the team. Last summer, McFarland played on the gold medal-winning United States team at the Under-19 World Championship in Australia.

Kunkel started all 14 of UMass' games at attack this season, leading the team in scoring with 43 points on 28 goals and 15 assists. He has now led the team in goals scored for two straight seasons, after totaling a team-best 22 goals in 1999. Kunkel recorded a career-high five assists against Brown in the season finale, while tying his career-high of six goals in the victory over Boston College. Following the completion of his junior year, Kunkel is UMass' top active career scorer with 76 points on 54 goals and 22 assists.

Racioppi played in all 14 games for the Minutemen, starting the final six and totaling 24 points on 22 goals and two assists. His 22 goals ranked second on the team, with his 24 total points ranking fourth. Racioppi's top game of the season came at Georgetown, when he scored a career-high seven goals. He also closed out the season on fire, totaling 18 goals in the final six games, with at least two goals in each contest. Racioppi concludes his junior year with career totals of 34 points on 30 goals and four assists.

The Minutemen had an overall record of 6-8 on the season, and finished fifth in the ECAC with a 2-4 conference record.
