No. 23 UMass Falls To No. 5 Oklahoma, 9-2

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Sophomore Teri Rooney (Visalia, Calif.) went 3-for-3 on the afternoon, but it was not enough as the No. 23 Minutewomen fell to No. 5 Oklahoma 9-2 in the first game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia Friday afternoon. Oklahoma improves to 20-1 on the year, while UMass falls to 0-6 on the season.
UMass' second game of the day, a 7:30 match-up with Stanford was postponed due to lightning. UMass will take on Mississippi State today at 12:30 and then play the Cardinal at 2:30 p.m. UMass will then advance into medal rounds upon completion of the Stanford contest.
Lana Moran picked up the win for the Sooners, while yielding only six hits, two runs and struck out six. Junior Carrie Jeffries (Placentia, Calif.) was tagged with the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season.
