PHOENIX, Ariz. - The No. 16 University of Massachusetts softball team fell, 4-3, to UNLV in the first game of a double-header for the Minutewomen on Saturday at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament. UMass drops to 0-3 with the loss. The Minutewomen will next face Cal State-Fullerton at 6:30 p.m. (E.S.T.).
Each team had nine hits in the game. Sophomore Nicole Truax picked up the victory on the mound, while UMass freshman Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, B.C.) went away with the loss. The Minutewomen scored three runs in the final two innings, but UNLV's three runs in the fifth inning proved too costly for UMass in the end.
