Levesque opened up the scoring at the 7:17 mark of the first period on a breakaway goal, just beating UMass goaltender Markus Helanen off a Chris Lynch pass. The Huskies added their second goal of the night on a power play midway through the second period. Billy Newson took a Matt Keating feed right in front of the crease and put it past Helanen for the score at the 9:17 mark.
UMass pulled to within one at the 13:49 mark of the second period when Jeff Blanchard netted his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Blanchard wristed a shot past Northeastern goaltender Mike Gilhooly off a pass from Ray Geever for his fifth goal in Hockey East action this season.
Junior Jeff Turner (Saginaw, Mich.) notted the score at two at the 1:39 mark in the third period, beating Gilhooly in a scramble in front of the net. Turner?s eighth goal of the season was assisted by Jedd Crumb and his younger brother, freshman Tim Turner (Saginaw, Mich.).
Levesque and Chris Lynch combined for the second time in the game to put the Huskies ahead 3-2 at the 12:17 mark of the third period. Lynch fed Levesque a perfect backhand pass in front of the net, where Levesque lifted past Helanen?s outstretched glove.
Lynch notched his third assist of the game just two minutes later when Graig Mischler netted his fourth goal of the season, putting Northeastern up 4-2 at the 14:30 mark.
