A standout goalkeeper during her career at UMass, Stephanie Gordon returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach for Ed Matz in the summer of 2015. Gordon, a 2013 UMass graduate, played for the Minutewomen in 2011 and 2012 after winning two CAA titles under Matz at Northeastern.
"I am thrilled to have Steph as a member of our coaching staff," said Matz. "I've known her since she was a sophomore in high school and have always been so impressed by her passion for the sport. Since graduating, Steph has worked hard to establish strong ties in club soccer in Massachusetts and has trained high level athletes. She brings great passion, dedication, knowledge and strong a commitment to our program every day and that helps raise our bar for success in all facets."
The 2015 marked Gordon's first season on the sidelines as an assistant coach for the Minutewomen. After starting keeper Danielle Kriscenski was sidelined due to injury following the season-opener, she mentored Cassidy Babin who made marked improvement from her freshman to sophomore season. Babin and the defense posted six shutouts including a string of four straight. For much of the season, UMass was ranked among the top defensive units in the country and the Atlantic 10.
In total in her collegiate career, Gordon logged 15 shutouts with a record of 28-17-1 a 1.14 goals-against average and a .829 save percentage over 56 matches. In two seasons at UMass, Gordon saw action in 14 contests and helped the Minutewomen to one of their most successful seasons in the past decade as a junior in 2011 when the squad went 14-5-2.
Gordon came to UMass in 2011 after transferring from Northeastern where she won a CAA regular season championship in 2009 and helped the Huskies reach the NCAA Tournament in 2008 by capturing the CAA tournament crown. Gordon was a CAA Second Team selection in 2009 and a CAA All-Tournament Team member in 2008. She left Northeastern as the program's career record holder for GAA at 1.09.
Upon graduating from UMass with a bachelor's degree in psychology in May 2013, Gordon served as Director of Goalkeepers at South Shore Select soccer school. She spent the 2014-15 season as the assistant coach at Simmons College in Boston, Mass., and has been a senior coach with Kick it USA since June 2006.
Gordon earned her NSCAA National Diploma and NSCAA Goalkeeper Diploma in June 2014.
