Played final minutes of NCAA Quarterfinal at Hopkins (5/21).
Scored first collegiate goal vs. St. John[apos]s (4/9).
Dished out an assist and picked up a groundball vs. Penn State (4/2) for first point of the season.
ON GONGAS: A finisher who may see time on the extra-man unit this year who has great ability to shoot and finish... increased strength and condtioning a great deal... improved off the ball play has made him more dynamic. AS A FRESHMAN IN 2004... Appeared in nine games for the Minutemen in a limited role at attack... dished out an assist and took a shot against Manhattan (4/9)... tallied first career assist at Penn State (4/3)... snagged a groundball in a win over Hartford (3/2). BEFORE UMASS... A four-year letterwinner at Comsewogue High School, where he played for Peter Mitchell... scored 100 points (55 g, 45 a) as a senior and scooped up 54 ground balls... finished scholastic career with 310 points (172 g, 138 a) and was a team captain his senior year... was All-League, All-County, All-Long Island and an honorable mention All-America selection during his senior year... was also a two-time winner of the Long Island Championship Game MVP honor... led team to a 35-6 mark over his final two seasons, including a state title in 2002. Gongas... son of Michael and Susan Gongas... born Jan. 13, 1985... father played lacrosse at UMass, in 1977-78, tallying eight goals in his career... majoring in pre-hospitality management.
