2006 Update...
Back-up goalie to four-year starter Bill Schell.
Has taken up playing some short-stick defensive midfield. Made season debut at Syracuse (4/29), playing final 1:54. Played final 12:37 of NCAA Quarterfinal at Hopkins (5/21).
Started and recorded nine saves in the NCAA first round win over Syracuse (5/15). Made eight saves in first half.
Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on May 9 after Rutgers game.
Made first career start at Rutgers, making 14 saves in the victory (5/7), tying the most by a UMass goalie since 2003.
Allowed two goals late in the fourth quarter vs. St. John[apos]s (4/9).
Appeared for almost all of the fourth quarter, allowing three goals vs. Penn State (4/2).
Made first appearance of the season, allowing one goal and making a save against Brown (3/19).
ON GUOBADIA: A tremendous athlete who has molded himself into a much more disciplined goalie... will challenege for starting spot with his quick hands and knack for making big saves... is an extremely explosive, strong, and fast player with quick hands. AS A FRESHMAN IN 2004... Entered two games as a reserve goalkeeper... logged 2:49 in the cage against Manhattan (4/9), facing one shot... saw 1:06 of game action and made his first collegiate save against Sacred Heart (3/23). BEFORE UMASS... A four-year letterwinner at Baldwin H.S., where he played for Coach Rich Garguilo... posted a 22-12-1 record over his final two seasons at Baldwin, and was a team captain in his final season... played in the Nassau Exceptional Senior Game, and was an honorable mention All-America selection and All-County selection in 2003... was named team MVP... also excelled in football, rushing for eight touchdowns as a halfback and picking off four passes as a safety. PERSONAL... Efosa Lawrick Guobadia... son of Sam Guobadia... born Nov. 27, 1985... brother, Ike, played football at C.W. Post University from 1999-2002... majoring in exercise science.
