UMass’ Smith, MacDonald & Keating Inducted Into Massachusetts Chapter of USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse head coach Kyle Smith '14, Greg MacDonald '97 and Paul Keating '76 were all inducted into the Massachusetts Chapter of the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame this past weekend.
Smith was a three-year starting attack over his four seasons (2010-13) with the Minutemen, earned an All-CAA Second Team recognition in 2013 and a CAA All-Tournament team nod in 2012 after helping UMass to the Colonial Athletic Association title and an NCAA Tournament berth. Over his four seasons with the Minutemen, Smith compiled 125 points on 79 goals and 46 assists to go along with 69 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers. He had 17 extra-man goals and nine game winters to his credit with 31 multi-point games in 60 career appearances, including 17 multi-goal games and a dozen hat tricks.
He has gone on to a coaching career that began with two Division II National Championships during his seven years as an assistant coach at Merrimack prior to returning to UMass on Greg Cannella's staff in the summer of 2021. The Longmeadow, Massachusetts native, was named UMass' head coach in September 2025.
MacDonald, a defenseman, played for the Gorillas from 1994 to 1997 and appeared in a total of 46 career games with four points on three goals and one assist to go along with 122 ground balls.
Keating, a UMass alumnus, was a longtime lacrosse official and supporter of the Massachusetts lacrosse program.
